  Russell's Gravesite Pictures - (just got back from Pittsburgh)

  well folks, got back from my trip to see russell's grave site.

  it was quite a interesting experience and sobering to see the pyramid right by his tombstone.

  i'm kind of tired and will be hitting the sack soon but i wanted to post a few pictures.

  These pictures are great! So what's with similarity between the crown and the cross in the lobby banner and the same on the pyramid?

  From Paradise Lost to Paradise Regained. I don't have it in front of me, but I think the book came out around 1958. I still remember seeing that lovely picture.

  I remember seeing it too. I was about 10 years old and it really scared me into believing the Borg so I wouldn't get killed.

  That's what "they" tell you alright. If she isn't baptised yet, she needs to put it off for a while and do some research. If she doesn't she'll be under "their" control.

  An Elder Just Knocked on My Door

  i didn't bother to answer.

  it's probably because i told my ex last week that i will personally sue the individual elders if they meet with my daughter again to counsel her without my parental consent.

  we have joint custody and that means they need joint parental consent to counsel a minor.. i am filing for sole custody of our 12 year old daughter and will be serving him with the legal paperwork next week.

  If you have too many problems with any witnesses trying to get to your daughter, maybe your lawyer would support getting a restraining order put against them. You do have reason to fear with their pedophille issues and their cult-like behavior. I also like the previous idea of taking the school brochure to show what your daughter will be subjected to if she is gets involved with the Witnesses. Take care and let us know how things are going.

  I don't want to offend any Prince fans out there, but I never liked him. I couldn't finish watching the video. If he's a Witness, he and the Jackson family give Brooklyn all the negative publicity they deserve.

  Why label it a cult?

  what purpose does it serve?

  it just seems to polarize people and ostracize those who aren't ready or willing to label it a cult.

  anyone can look up the dictionary definition of a cult (or experts' definitions).

  You are right to a point, however back in Russell and Rutherford days, the people actually idolized the leaders.
  
  Today they dont idolize the leaders, they just idolize the organization that is run by these leaders.

  I often wonder if today's Brooklyn guys would make themselves as visable as Knorr, Franz and the others in the 60s-70s, if they wouldn't be idolized. I haven't been around the Borg for a long time, but it seems that hardly anyone knows who's running Brooklyn these days.

  During the many years when I was inactive as a dub, and very miserable trying to hang on, I used to think I was brainwashed or something. I tried to dismiss it but the brainwashing thing just kept coming back to me. I really wanted to think differently and change my life, but I just couldn't. I knew I shouldn't even call myself a witness anyway, then one night I really did the research. When you can hardly bring yourself to do research on your own religion because you have an inner fear and anxiety about even typing into the subject line of Google, you've got a real problem. I haven't admitted this but I actually hyperventilated sometimes while reading Crisis of Conscience. I would get very upset and sometimes have to put the book down and pace back and forth for a while. So, if I wasn't under mind control since I was 10 years old, what else could it be? Eventually, when I looked up the definition of "cult", I realized exactly what had happened to me. It explained my feelings and experiences perfectly. So, to me, it's a cult but you'll may not realize it until you get out. That's my two cents.

  What did you like/hate about JW calendars?

  for me, every (other) saturday was magazine day.

  the only marked date on the calendar was the memorial.. the nature scenes were ok when they had a nature theme.

  i think the calendar is too small, boxes not big enough to write in..

  Something would just never allow me to put them up on a wall. They were too corny, too religious or something for my taste. I felt bad about these private feelings I had. I stopped taking a JW calendar after a while, prefering store bought calendars with floral or garden scenes and national holidays posted so I could know when the banks were closed.

  I felt the same way.

  THE UNIVERSE - What do you now believe about it?

  i was watching this documentary on the various galaxies and it stated that the universe is still expanding, planets are being created as we speak.

  it also detailed some of the planets within our solar system and some beyond it and speculated how some were favorable for habitation and that some show evidence of having a water supply.

  what do you believe about the universe?

  I remember seeing Saturn and it's rings through a high powered telescope set up by some Astronomy students. It was really incredible. During college, I took a course on the birth and death of stars. It's beautiful out there. I don't feel it came about just by chance, but that's just my humble opinion.

  Elders Giving Personal Opinions as Counsel,How did it Affect You?

  hey everybody.

  when i was a witness one thing that drove me crazy was getting counsel from elders shooting personal opinions off their hip like it was from jehovah god himself.

  how many times at assemblies, wt articles, etc.

  I remember hearing a visiting Elder giving a talk about prayer. He said that if you fall asleep, lose your focus, or not finish before saying "In Jesus name, Amen", that you are disrepecting Jehovah. After all, you wouldn't fall asleep or just quit talking to your boss, or a friend so you can never expect Jehovah to accept that type of prayer. As a result, he won't except you period because you disrespect him. It hurt me deeply. I had these weaknesses when praying. My praying was never the same until I left the Borg. After I quit, I asked one of my Christian friends at work if this was true and she told me that was the cruelist, unmerciful thing she ever heard.
